July 2010 London Travel Tips!

Information and Tips for travel in London during July 2010

1. Take a bottle of water with you, particularly if travelling on the London Underground. There's nothing quite like getting stuck on the tube with a dry throat! Also, some outlets in London (and we won't name them) have been known to charge extortionately large amounts of money for water, so carrying a bottle of water (or other refreshing liquid) is a very good idea.

2. July is London's hottest month of the year with temperature in London frequently exceeding 30 degrees (but typically around 20-25 degrees) Suntan lotion is advised, especially if spending time outdoors. The amount of time you spend in the sun depends on the individual, however we advise to ask your doctor this question too.

3. If you're attending an event which requires tickets, get them from an official outlet. It's true that you CAN save money of tickets if you buy from family and friends, however the number of people being caught in ticket scams by strangers is rising. Might cost a bit more, but avoids any disappointment (unless the event gets cancelled).

4. Take a map with you. Most major train terminals will have a tourist outlet with a map, sometimes you might pay a few pounds, other times it'll be free but covered in adverts. Some folks have been known to carry these really technical gadgets called "iPhones" which have a funky digital map facility, most commonly 'Google Maps'.

5. Unless your plan is to stroll around the capital aimlessly (which a lot visitors and residents in London do) it's worthwhile creating a travel itinerary, this way you have on a sheet of paper where you're staying, where you're going, where you're eating (handy if your dietary needs are veggie, vegan, kosher, halal, etc). A travel itinerary can also have your flight times and coach/train times on. If travelling in a group it will help people avoid getting lost and/or asking lots of questions!
