CHELSEA DEFEATED Wigan Athletic 8-0 at their Stamford Bridge Stadium in West London on Saturday, to reclaim the English Premier League title from 2009 winners Manchester United.
United had won the last three championships, making Chelsea's triumph that much sweeter, but few fans would have imagined such an emphatic scoreline to bring down the curtain on Premiership season 2009/2010. Chelsea's goal came from Didier Drogba (3), Nicolas Anelka (2), Frank Lampard, Solomon Kalou, and Ashley Cole.
Elsewhere in the Premiership, North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham (who both qualified for next season's UEFA Champions League tournament) finished in 3rd and 4th places respectively, meaning three teams from the capital, along with Manchester United, made up the top four league places.
Fulham, who face Atletico Madrid in the Europa League Final in Hamburg on Wednesday, finished 12th. East Londoners West Ham United finished one place above the relegation zone after successfully battling against relegation to the Championshp.
